How long does it take you to make adjustments to your plan(s) before getting back on track? Or do just give up because you missed a couple of days or weeks into your journey?

Many people fall into this trap and I believe it’s due to not having a well thought out plan. Let’s face it, without a plan you are destined for failure. Consider this, have you ever known any athlete to win a competition without a strategy and great discipline? An actor or actress to win an Oscar award without losing themselves into their character? Or a college student graduating with honors without studying and sacrifice? The same goes with making resolutions, you must plan to succeed in order to reap the benefits.

Whether you want to lose those extra pounds you gained over the holidays, kick a habit that has you bond by its control or start off the new year with a different outlook on life, you need a plan! Your plan should be simple and success proof. You also want to make commitments that you have a good chance of keeping. Here are some tips to help you:

Tip No. 1 Focus On a Goal

Start with one major goal. Your major goal has to be attainable and realistic. If your major goal is to lose 30 pounds in six months, you need a plan to get you there.

Tip No. 2 Make a Plan

Put together a strategy to include small steps that will lead up to the major goal. Your small steps to losing 30 pounds could be to lose 1-2 pounds per week by eating right and exercising.

Tip No.3 Make a Recovery Plan

Always have a backup plan. It is normal to fall off track but you must get back on your journey. Stay positive and remain confident that you can make it. Start where you fell off and get going!

Tip No. 4 Reward for Good Behavior

Include a reward system as you go along. When you accomplish several of your small steps, reward yourself with a small purchase or a personal service (manicure or pedicure).

Tip No. 5 Create a Support System

Get others involved to hold you accountable. This is vital to your success as they will keep you motivated and help you when you have a hard time staying afloat. They will also celebrate with you once you’ve accomplished your major goal.

The path to success is not an easy one but it is certainly possible. When you plan to succeed, you will succeed in your plans.
