EmployEE or EmployER, Which Would You Rather Be?
college graduatesMany college graduates may discover that their dream of landing an ‘ideal’ job is a fleeting one. “According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the unemployment rate was 9.5 percent in October 2009.” Furthermore, Bloomberg News survey of economists states, “the jobless rate will exceed 10 percent through half of 2010.” In addition, landing an ‘average’ job could take longer than normal in a market saturated by many looking for work. Therefore, focusing solely on working for someone else is not wise!

Instead, I challenge you to embrace a paradigm shift in your thinking and consider the idea of Entrepreneurship. In this way, you can jump start a business with the skills and training acquired through summer jobs or internships. Also, while on this journey, you want to create a personal brand so potential customers can recognize your company ahead of doing business with you. Establishing a reputation and credibility will advance your career and build self-confidence as a new business owner.

This type of thinking, when put into action, can put you in control of your own destiny. On graduation day you could instantly become an employer and not an employee.

I attached a link from Black Enterprise magazine to show you the stories of young talented entrepreneurs who are already taking the front seat navigating the road to success. Someday, we could read about you!
