“CONSIDER THE SOURCE OF CRITICISM”
anton_criticDo you recall having a conversation with someone and you were given unsolicited criticism disguised as friendly advice?  Their response may have taken you by surprise considering the source.  And given the source you didn’t know whether to question or challenge their observation.

The problem with those of us giving advice is that we speak before listening completely.  We give an answer before having all the facts.  We make assumptions without knowing the history.  We give an ear full when only an ear may have been needed.

Accepting criticism is hard to do when it’s unfounded and unexpected. Especially from someone who may not have the background knowledge of the person to give an accurate assessment.  Be that as it may, the next time you find yourself  in a critique session disguised as friendly advice, consider the source of criticism.  Ask yourself these questions: Does the critic have knowledge or experience in this area?  Are the critic’s comments sincere?  Did you ask for feedback or is the criticism completely unsolicited?  Does the person WANT you to do well? By asking these questions, you will know if to accept or reject their criticism.
